Vorlesung: Electric Drives and Storage Systems
Die Veranstaltung "Electric Drives and Energy Storage Systems" im Sommersemester 2023 wird institutsübergreifend durch das Lehr- und Forschungsgebiet Mechatronik in mobilen Antrieben (MMP) und den Lehrstuhl Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) angeboten. Die Vorlesungen halten Professor Jakob Andert (MMP) und Professor Heiner Hans Heimes (PEM). Die Veranstaltung findet in englischer Sprache statt.

- Hybrid fundamentals and electric vehicle production: Comparison of hybrid concepts, Product development process, Life cycle analysis
- Storage systems: Basic functionality of batteries and supercapacitors, Characteristics and properties of batteries, Aging mechanisms & safety issues of batteries, Design of a battery system, Future battery trends, Production steps of a battery, Battery module and pack assembly
- Recycling: Vehicle, Power electronics and battery recycling
- Electrical machines: Fundamentals in electromagnetics and DC machine, Components of electrical machines, Fundamentals in AC machines, Machine topologies, Value chain of electric motors, Sustainability in electric motor production
- Cooling systems and thermal analysis: Thermal dynamics of electrical machines, Heat transport mechanisms, Cooling concepts for electrical machines and power electronics, Comparison of different cooling concepts
- Testing and validation: Test bench set up for electrical machines and drive trains, Sensor types and basic function principles
- Quality in production & Industry 4.0: Basics, Quality assurance along the production chain and industry 4.0
Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering: Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws, three-phase alternating current, complex alternating current calculation, phasor diagrams
After successful participation in the course, the students
- know the different types of electrical machines and can explain their behavior,
- are capable to evaluate various drive systems according to particular specifications,
- have basic knowledge on energy storage systems for mobile applications, especially batteries,
- are able to design a cooling concept for an electrical machine,
- understand how the components of electric drives are tested and validated
- have basic knowledge on powertrain recycling, and quality assurance along the overall production process.
Method of Teaching / Learning
- Lecture-style teaching
- Weekly lecture of 90 min and calculation exercise of 45 min, contents (slides and/or additional material) are provided digitally.
- Question and consultation hours by appointment and shortly before the exam.
