First Automated Drive on Test Track
A novelty: For the first time, our BMW i3 drove fully automated on the test track.
As part of the EVOLVE research project, an institute vehicle of the MMP equipped with a prototype control unit was automatically controlled by a specifically implemented driving function for the first time on December 16, 2021. During the test drive at the Aldenhoven Testing Center, an adaptive cruise control (ACC) system was successfully evaluated in various representative inner-city scenarios. Purely virtual ambient traffic was used to increase safety and reproducibility. From now on, the tested function will serve as a reference for driving algorithms optimized for energy efficiency, among other things, in order to fully exploit the energy-saving potential of automated vehicles in the future.
