Project launch ROTAFEM

20/05/2022

Starting June 1, 2022, the Teaching and Research Area Mechatronics in Mobile Propulsion will participate in the ROTAFEM research project.

In the scope of the funding program progres.nrw, the 6-month project deals with the validation of a sensorless rotor temperature determination for permanent magnet excited synchronous machines. This allows the efficiency of electrical machines to be increased by exploiting active field weakening and a higher overload capacity.

In this project, a test bench with a universal converter with freely programmable software will be put into operation. This will be used to test the previously developed control algorithms based on realistic driving scenarios and to examine their results with regard to the increase in efficiency of the powertrain relative to conventional control of the electric machine. The expected increase in efficiency of the electric powertrain can either increase the range of electric vehicles or save resources and costs by using smaller components.
